Give us the elevator speech about your project (as in how would you describe your project to someone you meet in an elevator?):
As a credit union, we can use our expertise and resources to provide cost-efficient professional development for small organizations to develop skills necessary to succeed—skills like strategic planning, financial management, human resources, marketing, social media strategy and compliance. Supporting the development and success of these organizations will improve our communities and enrich the lives and financial wellbeing of our members.

What is your long-term career goal?
In the future, I would like to focus on community development, including human service enhancements focusing on children and young adults.

Fill in the dots: The future of credit unions will be bright if …
... we can transition from financial services to enrichment organizations that focus on customers’ lives beyond what we see on a credit report or application. This may include a focus on overall health, community wellness or other services outside our current space.

What my generation brings to the credit union movement is …
We bring a willingness to fail fast, yet forward, leading to innovation and enhancement to current services.

People consider me a leader because …
My goal is to be seen as a trusted partner, not a leader. Leadership develops naturally through trust and experience. I work to be authentic. I value being honest, even when it is hard.

Who is your hero and why?
Aside from being the only male in a household with three women (which is heroic by itself), my husband is a first responder as a firefighter and paramedic. He showed heroism to me as I saw him comfort people in incredible despair and celebrate when there was a successful rescue. He has encouraged others in the fire department and in the community in times of immense grief with a strong, yet comforting sincerity that takes incredible patience and self-control. The job that our first responders do goes far beyond running into burning buildings or crime scenes; it is often the unseen efforts that show their true strength.

What is your favorite CUES member benefit? Or, if you are a new CUES member, what benefit are you most looking forward to using?
I have been honored to attend some of the CUES schools at the member rate. They are well-executed and focus on the future of the credit union industry with an awareness of the outside impacts.

Online voters and a panel of past finalists narrowed the CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec field from 23 to the Top 10 applicants. The challenge, held in conjunction with DDJ Myers and powered by Currency, searches for emerging leaders age 35 and under from within the credit union industry.

The Top 10 will blog about their project. And to provide additional value to the competition experience, they’ll each receive an executive coaching session from DDJ Myers, a CUESolutions provider for succession planning, executive recruitment and leadership coaching services. A judging panel of two CUES members and Deedee Myers of DDJ Myers will then score the Top 10’s applications and blog posts, narrowing the competition to five finalists.

The five finalists will receive additional coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration to CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network™, November 5-7, in Nashville, Tenn., where they will give their final presentations. The 2018 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec will receive further coaching, airfare, accommodation and registration for two CUES’ CEO Institutes, a total prize package valued at $20,000.
