Shownotes for the CUES Podcast Episode 45 with Jeff Rendel

The concept behind Jeff Rendel’s “CEO at every desk” idea is that front-line employees see more members face-to-face than the CEO and other executives in the C-suite. They are the CEOs of their jobs.

Jeff, president of Rising Above Enterprises, joined me on the CUES Podcast Episode 45 to talk about this idea.

“Everyone, from the MSR to the new accounts representative, business development officer—they may not even have a business card but they do have a CEO-level type of role for their job.”

There are several ways CEOs and the leadership team can support the CEOs at every level:

  1. Help everyone at your CU understand their role in strategy and their impact. How does what they do affect the top line? How do they help manage the bottom line? How do they help loans grow?
  2. Help them see the accountability they have for results. If your CU’s goal is $1 million in new loans, do they have authority, the accountability for the successes and sometimes the shortcomings of not hitting those goals?
  3. Have everyone involved in innovation and improvement. “I encourage everyone listening to this podcast, go downstairs and ask some of your front-line leaders: ‘How could you be better at your job?’” Rendel says.

Listen to Episode 45 for more on how all employees can impact strategy and service.

The CUES podcast is an audio program hosted by James Lenz, CUES professional development manager. James talks to credit union and cross-industry experts for their perspectives on trends and topics that matter to you.
